Greetings from Director

I’ll never forget the first time I walked into the Moberly Municipal Auditorium to attend a Moberly Area Council on the Arts Concert Series performance. It was 1988. I was nine years old, and our family had recently moved to Moberly from Houston, Texas. I had seen operas, Broadway shows and ballets while living in the city and suddenly, here we were in “Small Town, USA”. I remember sitting in the auditorium in my black velvet dress listening to the concert, allowing the music to take me far away.

 Month after month, year after year, MACA has continued to bring the world to Moberly. Whether it was the Chinese Acrobats, Irish or African dancers, Jamaican steel drum bands or Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, we have seen the arts at their best sitting right here in Moberly, MO. After years of soaking up the cultural opportunities

 MACA has offered, I’m excited to give back to the arts community as the incoming Director for the Council this season. MACA wishes to thank Karen Wright for her five years of service as Director. With Karen at the helm, MACA has seen both financial and membership growth. Her capable leadership and willingness to explore new avenues in the arts is much appreciated and will long affect the arts in the Moberly Area.

 The Council is excited about the 2008-2009 Season. You’ll find the wide variety of acts and events in this brochure. There is truly something for everyone this season. We invite you to join us at each event and to become a member or renew your commitment to MACA.

 MACA believes in promoting and supporting artists, arts activities, arts education and public appreciation for the visual and performing arts as well as the humanities throughout North-Central Missouri. Your membership provides support for these types of exciting events and creative opportunities allowing MACA to showcase talent, educate and bring our region together through art. Your participation is vitally important to maintain the growth and enthusiasm our communities need for the arts.
